What is this?

DDD is a digital garden of my thoughts + ideas. It won’t necessarily be for everyone, but that’s okay.

What is a digital garden?

I intend to use it for thinking out loud. Perfection is the enemy of done, and if I followed my insinct, I’d never make anything. This collection of examples is pretty helpful.

What is this for?? Why are you doing this?!?

Fun. I like to write and I want to be better at it. Plus, creating websites has been one of my ultimate forms of expression as someone not great with physical media.

Why “dear [dev] diary”? Don’t you do data science? Why not “dear [data] diary”? It’s still cute and it makes more sense.

I had already purchased the domain name…

Also, I have projects where I use SWE skills and principles to escape the “experimental abyss of the Jupyter notebook”, so it’s still applicable.

Plus getting this site off the ground and tailoring it to my preferences will take a healthy amount of dev work, which is the fun part.

What did you use to create this?

  • Obsidian for Markdown content + organization
  • Quartz to generate static pages I used Astro for a previous version of my posts, but I prefer the DG philosophy instead tailoring what I make for a specific audience. I may remake this using Astro someday since Quartz doesn’t use React.
